Story

Born in Valley Stream, Long Island, New York

MARCH 17, 1980

Rebekah Charmaine Santana was born on Monday, March 17, 1980, in Valley Stream, Long Island, New York to Worth-Russell and Margaret Santana (née Clunes). Her sudden passing occurred on Monday, August 29, 2022. She was 42 years old.

Although Rebekah, or “Becky,” to many, was born in New York, from the age of about six months old, she was raised in the Midwest, in the small town of Carbondale in the state of Kansas, which was home for her. She was educated in the public school system in Carbondale and Overbrook and Washburn University. Her last place of employment was at Brewster Place care facility in Topeka where she worked as a personnel scheduler and enjoyed interacting with workmates and with residents at the facility.

Becky was raised by her parents to have strong faith in God’s Word, the Bible. On Saturday, June 18, 1994, at the “Godly Fear” District Convention, she dedicated her life to Jehovah and was publicly baptized as one of his Witnesses. As a child, she attended the Lyndon, Kansas congregation with her family, later on moving to the Colly Creek congregation in Topeka. She also lived for a time in Connecticut, where she attended the North Hartford congregation.

Becky is survived by a large extended family and many, many friends who loved her dearly. These include her parents, Worth-Russell and Margaret Santana, her brother Russell Santana and his wife, Mercedes, her brother Reuben Santana and his daughters, Nizae, Endya, and Nylah, her adoptive brother Rick Nagel, his wife Dawn, and their children Alex and Joey; many uncles, aunts, and cousins in the US and Trinidad (West Indies); her childhood friend Charmaine Tineo, her husband Nelson, and their children; and her childhood friend, Erica and her husband, William Janosik; she felt especially close to their children, Khloe, Meadow, Roman, and Axl. She also leaves behind many friends in the congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses she was associated with both in Kansas and in Connecticut.

One of Becky's treasured scriptural accounts was that of the friendship and loyalty between Ruth and Naomi, and Becky herself was known to be very loyal to her family and friends. From the time she was a little girl, she had an attractive, bright, and bubbly personality, and made friends extremely easily. She was also very mischievous, as her older brothers Russell and Rick, and her uncle David can attest. She was a joy to her family.

From an early age, Bekah (as her parents called her) suffered illnesses that plagued her throughout her life. These struggles eventually took their toll on her. We are deeply saddened on losing our precious Bekah and we miss her dearly. We eagerly long for the day when our Heavenly Father Jehovah and his Son Christ Jesus by means of his Kingdom foretold in Scripture will call her name and she will be raised up with perfect mind and body and will be reunited with all of God’s people in his righteous New World.
